In 1992, first-time filmmaker Jessica Yu made Sour Death Balls for under $60; she was subsequently awarded a contract with HBO based on this short film, and went on to win an Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Subject for Breathing Lessons: The Life and Work of Mark O'Brien in 1997.
She continues to be an accomplished filmmaker.
