Now I Have No Excuses Not To Do My Filmmaking Work...Damn It...

Stupidity Only Works Some Of The Time...

Creativity is the sudden cessation of stupidity.

Not "What" or "Why," But "Why Not?"

The key question isn’t “What fosters creativity?” But it is why in God’s name isn’t everyone creative? Where was the human potential lost? How was it crippled? I think therefore a good question might be not why do people create? But why do people not create or innovate? We have got to abandon that sense of amazement in the face of creativity, as if it were a miracle if anybody created anything.

Homework Assignment...

As a member of the New York Video School (NYVS) community, a small group of us filmmakers (seven in total, from all over the country) decided to challenge ourselves (or drive ourselves crazy, whatever comes first) in the New Year with monthly film challenges/projects. The first individual film challenge/project had the following rules:

1) The theme of the film must be "addiction."

2) The primary purpose of the film must be "to end a relationship."

3) The film's narrative must be told in the "first-person" by the film's protagonist.

4) The film's protagonist must be "gender-opposite" of the filmmaker - if the filmmaker is male, the protagonist must be female; if the filmmaker is female, the protagonist must be male.

5) Only ten (or less) specific video/photo shots can be used within the film (excluding opening and closing credits); these shots can be used repeatedly.

6) The entire length of the film (including opening and closing credits) cannot be more that six minutes in length.

7) The film must be animated (none of us has worked with animation before).

8) The upload deadline of the film is Sunday, January 26, 2014.

Below is my attempt at following the rules and coming up with something...yikes! :)

Thinking Is The Enemy...

Don't think. Thinking is the enemy of creativity. It's self-conscious, and anything self-conscious is lousy. You can't try to do things. You simply must do things.

David Lynch And Intuition...

Intuition is the key to everything, in painting, filmmaking, business - everything. I think you could have an intellectual ability, but if you can sharpen your intuition, which they say is emotion and intellect joining together, then a knowingness occurs.

Spike's Message Of Redemption...

What's the difference between a dilettante and a real artist? The dilettante worries about Facebook friends and Twitter tweets. The real artist worries about getting the damn project done to the best of his or her ability.

What Was Important To John Cassavetes?

Film is, to me, just unimportant. But people are very important.

The Key (Holder) To Great Filmmaking

Tim's talisman:

How To Be Sociable As A Filmmaker...

Just Do It (Part 2)...

If there's specific resistance to women making movies, I just choose to ignore that as an obstacle for two reasons: I can't change my gender, and I refuse to stop making movies.

Beam Me Up, J.J.!

Bansky's Brain

Film is incredibly democratic and accessible, it’s probably the best option if you actually want to change the world, not just re-decorate it.
